# API configuration

Before you can start using the CryptoProcessing API, generate and activate an API key. Use a **Master** key for full API access, and optionally configure **Custom** keys that can call only selected endpoints. You can restrict each key to trusted IP addresses.

To receive webhook notifications, you also need to register a callback URL and keep a Master key active. CryptoProcessing signs callbacks using the secret key of the active Master key.

For details on authenticating your requests, refer to the [API reference](https://docs.ca.cryptoprocessing.com/api-reference/introduction.md).
